Easter does not fall on the same date each year. Instead, it is celebrated on the first Sunday on or after the Paschal Full Moon—the first Full Moon following the Church’s set date for the spring equinox.
The Church considers March 21 to be the spring equinox date, even though the astronomical equinox can occur on March 19, 20, or 21.
This method of calculation was established at the Council of Nicaea in 325 CE to unify the celebration of Easter around the world.
Since the lunar cycle doesn’t align precisely with the calendar, Easter can fall anywhere between March 22 and April 25.

Easter Sunday is not a statutory holiday at the federal level. However, it is a province holiday in Newfoundland and Labrador and in Nova Scotia, and a Christian observance in the other provinces and territories.
