Video games are games played by people on an electronic device that usually displays components of the games. Video games can be played on a computer, a console or an arcade machine.

Part of Popular Culture

Video games became a part of popular culture in the 1970s and 1980s when the technology to make the games and play them became affordable and easily accessible. One of the earliest arcade games that became popular around the world was Atari's Pong. Released in 1972, Pong was based on tennis.

Today, technological innovations have revolutionized both the science and art of video games. People can now not only play video games on consoles and on their computers, but they can also play them on their mobile phones and hand-held tablets.

Some people celebrate a similar holiday on September 12.

How to Celebrate?

  • Participate in local video game events and competitions.
  • Play all your favorite video games with your friends.
  • Have a video game party where you and your guests dress up like your favorite video game characters.
